October Update. Aeration Complete!

Summer has given way to fall. Temperatures are cooling down (Morning Hoodies and Jackets are becoming an every day occurrence). Our crew of summer students have returned to their studies. Our focus turned to keeping up with the mowing with half of our labour force gone, preparing for corporate events and member closing events. A dry month had us watering much more than in a typical September. Cool temperatures and shorter days keep us from chasing turf decline. Thankfully, no tropical systems have passed over us to this point!

Fall aeration was completed without a hitch. By closing the course mid afternoon Sunday, and all of Monday we could complete the work more effectively. The biggest advantage being that we could let the topdressing sand sit on the greens and fully dry before brushing into the holes. We have been watering the greens, adding additional sand, and making fertilizer applications to expedite the recovery process.

We should see a good amount of recovery while we still have some warm days left in the season. I would anticipate the aeration holes being mostly grown and recovered by the latter half of the month.

Just in time for Superintendent's Revenge. Plans are in the works!
