Phase 2...and a Heartfelt Goodbye

Phase 2 has been held up due to recent conditions. We have been unable to make progress without causing damage to the soft ground that has been thawing out. We are in constant communication with our contractor and will pick up on things once dry out enough. Most rough shaping work has been completed on all bunkers. I will put up another post next week showing the work on 18 Greenside and the beginning of the work on 3 tee. Stay tuned..

As was stated in the most recent member update, Associate Superintendent Geoff Hay has made a move into the Head Superintendent position at Old Ashburn. After 6 seasons at Oakfield Geoff has taken advantage of a great opportunity at a great property. Those who do not know, Geoff and I first met in 2009 where we were working at Glen Arbour together. To think at that time, along with Mat Hamilton at New Ashburn, and Steve Hancox at Fredericton that there were 4 future Superintendents on staff there is quite unique...and pretty crazy!

Geoff's time here has been highlighted by our success at the 2019 HFX-ProAm and his great work taking on some of the renovation work in Oakfield's Master Plan. What I will remember most will be the countless conversations that would take place all throughout the property collaborating on how to make a place that we both love so much shine brightest. We made it through hurricanes, floods, and everything in between. We both had kids only a couple of months apart in 2021, it was nice to share some of those experiences together. As difficult as it is to have a great co-worker and friend leave, it is far surpassed by how happy I am to see him take this next step in his career. I can't wait to see him make his mark in this new path. Good luck Geoff, you'll always have the 2009 Jr. Club Champ trophy here at Oakfield!
